When you delete photos (or any files) from Pentax digital camera the photos itself isn’t deleted, just the file system pointers that says where the data for those photos is located. The area where the deleted photo data was stored is also now marked as free space so it is available to the system for any new files to be written there instead. If and when that happens, then it is too late to recover your deleted photos so it is very, very important that new photos aren’t saved to the memory card in the meantime. One of the easiest ways to see if your deleted photo from Pentax digital camera can be recovered is to try some photo recovery software.
A digital photo is a computer file created by either a digital camera or scanner that is made up of sequence of pixels. When a digital camera takes a photograph, it converts raw image data from an optical sensor, into a standardized digital file format for storage on a memory card.
The most common digital image formats are JPEG, TIFF and RAW. Most photographers choose to shoot in JPEG as this file format offers a very good balance between file size and image quality with a variety of compression options. RAW (the initial file format) photos offer the highest possible image quality but have greater requirements in file size, although they are popular can be considered a sort of digital negative.

The reason is when you delete photos from Pentax digital camera it does not actually delete the photos, it just deletes the file information on the file allocation table and leaves the photos data intact. With this information the digital camera thinks the space occupied by the old photos are available for use. When you start taking new photos you start to overwrite the areas vacated by the old photos and then the old photos are really "deleted" by the process of having new information overwritten in that area of the SD card. Once new data is written over old data, then the old data is gone for good. Also, what most people don't realize is that flash based memory cards like SD and USB drives have a limited life cycle - they do not last forever. Every time data is written and deleted or formatted, it takes a toll on the flash device (granted the life cycle is pretty long).
